Oct 22, 2018 Over a year ago, Code42 Software announced that it would be discontinuing its CrashPlan for Home service and software as of 22 October 2018. Joe Kissell, until that point one of CrashPlan’s most enthusiastic fans, explained the situation in “CrashPlan Discontinues Consumer Backups” (22 August 2017). For complete details, see Code42’s FAQ. Anyone out there deploying Crashplan 6.5 via Jamf? This used to be a simple process. Deploy a custom folder along with the installer via self service while logged in as the end user.
Since the forced change from Home to Small Business plan and the new (unannounced) app interface revamp a few weeks back, the app and the service sucks. I have been stuck on cache maintenance for NINE days. I've had multiple chats with their tech support reps. Oh, NOW, I know what the problem is, and it's mine, of course. They never inform you about it up front: you're not supposed to back up your whole drive (i.e., root folder), you're only supposed to back up your user folder.I've used CrashPlan for years to back up whole drives, and this was never a problem until this latest upgrade. I think they're trying to kill off all the small user base and cater only to the Business level clients. I bet CrashPlan doesn't tell THEM what files they can and can't back up.Bottom line is my internal drive hasn't been backed up in 9 days. Backing up my hard drive and externals is why I use a backup service. Unfortunately for CrashPlan (as if) and fortunately for me, I'm looking into going back to something like Retrospect and a cold storage/cloud storage service, even though this will be spendier. I don't care, as CrashPlan doesn't meet my needs any more. I didn't change anything; THEY did.Caveat emptor!#endrant
